Erik Melén is a pediatric allergist and associate professor at Karolinska Institutet and Sachs’ Children’s Hospital, Stockholm, Sweden. Dr Melén’s projects aim to advance the understanding about the complex interplay between genetic and environmental factors involved in lung growth, respiratory and allergic diseases in children. His team has extensive experience of conducting large clinical and epidemiological studies, particularly in the BAMSE cohort with 4000 participants followed from birth up to young adulthood. Dr Melén is also engaged in several international collaborations on respiratory and allergic diseases, and is leading a number of large genetics, epigenetics and epidemiological projects. Recently, Dr Melén received an ERC grant for his research projects and the prestigious Phadia Allergy Research Forum (PhARF) Award.
